Improve Your Resume with Some Quiet Time

A paid promo for a Masterclass blew my mind today.

Seriously? Yes.

Admittedly, the Gordon Ramsay Teaches Cooking class has called to me from the start since FB knows how much we relish cooking (see what I did there?) but yesterday Joyce Carol Oates shared some perspective in her promo that made me sit and sip my coffee slowly, thinking.

I mean, she reset my expectations of writing, possibly forever.

She said “The great enemy of writing isn't your own lack of talent, or industry, it's being interrupted by other people.”

Can anyone relate?

Between wading through teaching home preschool to two youngsters, moving to a new state, zoom calls galore, valiantly attempting dinner before 9 o'clock at night -- it's no small wonder the best writing is done when everybody is asleep.

But, what I had just done to "fit it in" could actually be weilded as an intentional tool used by JCO? Mind. Blown.

Because it is at those uninterrupted times when it just flows.

Have you ever heard something simple like this and changed your perspective for good? Try rewriting your cover letter or a job description on your resume when you have a moment to yourself -- no distractions.

Did the *sound of silence* bring anything new to the surface?

What are a few habits that help your writing? Share your comments on the Traction Resume FB Page and know that I am cheering you on to success, every step of the way.

Until then, I'll be either learning the Art of the Short Story with Ms. Oates or perfecting our Osso Buco with Mr. Ramsay!
